Pre-Procedure Confirmation

Confirming the Hold, the Driver and the Arrival Location

Day-of cancellations in pain are usually readiness failures. Confirm every item on your written pre-procedure checklist while the slot can still be saved.

How it pays back

A Day-Of Cancellation Costs More Than One Appointment

An injection block is staffed as a unit: the suite, the technologist, monitoring, and in some practices sedation cover. A case that cannot proceed on the morning is not a single lost slot, it is a gap in a staffed session with no time left to fill it. Many of those gaps trace back to a question that could have been asked the day before.

The Hold Instruction Belongs to the Prescriber, Not the Phone

Published interventional pain guidance stratifies spine and pain procedures by bleeding risk, and appropriate hold intervals differ by agent and by procedure, often requiring input from the physician who prescribed the anticoagulant. There is no generic answer to give a patient at eight in the evening. The system confirms against what your practice recorded and escalates anything else.

Confirming Is Not the Same as Reminding

A reminder restates the date and time. A confirmation asks the questions on your checklist, records the answers, and produces a list of exceptions. The distinction matters most in this specialty, where the patient who confirms enthusiastically and then arrives having taken their anticoagulant that morning is the case that gets cancelled in the bay.

Exceptions Surface Early Enough to Be Useful

When a readiness failure is found the day before, two things become possible that are not on the morning: the patient can be rescheduled with fresh instructions, and the slot can go to a backfill candidate who is already prepared.

Frequently asked questions

Will it tell a patient when to stop a blood thinner?

No, and this is not configurable. Anticoagulant and antiplatelet management around interventional spine procedures is a patient-specific clinical decision made by the prescriber and the proceduralist. The system restates only the instruction your practice already recorded, and routes any question or discrepancy to clinical staff.

What happens when a patient says they did not follow the instruction?

The answer is captured as an exception and delivered to your staff under the rule you set, with the patient told that someone from the practice will follow up. The system does not decide whether the case can proceed, does not characterise the situation, and does not tell the patient the procedure is off.

Can it cancel the case itself?

Only where your rules allow a patient-initiated cancellation to release a slot. A readiness failure is not treated as a cancellation, because that is a clinical judgement. It is routed to your team, who decide whether the case proceeds, moves, or is released into the backfill list.

Does it confirm the driver requirement for sedation cases?

If it is on your checklist for that procedure type, yes: whether a responsible adult is confirmed and whether they know the arrival and collection arrangements. A patient without one is returned as an exception ahead of the day.

Can we run it more than once before the procedure?

Yes. A longer-lead pass can cover preparation and authorisation, with a short-lead pass covering arrival, fasting and the driver. You set the cadence, the questions in each pass, the call windows and the attempt limit.

How does it know each patient's checklist?

You author the checklists, generally one per procedure type, and any patient-specific instruction comes from what your practice recorded. The upcoming block can be pulled where a schedule integration exists, available through API or FHIR on supported systems, or supplied by your staff as a list.
