Paul Toomey, MD, developed MedReception AI while practicing general surgery and operating an independent medical practice. What began as a solution for the phone, scheduling, and front-desk challenges inside his own practice evolved into a customized AI platform serving medical organizations across multiple specialties and practice sizes.

Because he ran a practice, Dr. Toomey knows firsthand what a missed call actually costs: a new patient who books elsewhere, a refill that slips through the cracks, a front desk that never gets a quiet moment. Every part of MedReception AI was built and tested against those real situations, not a demo script, so it holds up on the nights, weekends, and morning rushes when practices need it most.

In 2026 he committed to MedReception AI full-time, closing his surgical practice to devote himself completely to his current professional passion: helping medical practices improve patient access through customized healthcare AI. For the practices he works with, that means a physician founder personally invested in getting their phones, scheduling, and patient experience right.

Why MedReception AI was built

Running a practice, Dr. Toomey saw firsthand how much patient access depends on the phone: after-hours calls that go unanswered, a front desk stretched thin during the morning rush, and voicemails that pile up. He built MedReception AI to answer every call, book and manage appointments, triage urgency, and integrate with the practice's existing systems, so the front desk can focus on the patients in the room. Every implementation is customized around the individual practice's scheduling rules, call routing, escalation protocols, intake requirements, and technology, rather than forced into a template.
