After-Hours Service

Replace Abby Connect after-hours forwarding with 24/7 AI reception

Practices using Abby Connect for after-hours calls can deploy AI reception that handles nights, weekends, and holidays without an external answering service, qualifies urgent calls, and books appointments into your schedule.

How it pays back

No External Answering Service Needed

You own the after-hours reception. Every call is answered by your AI, triaged by your protocols, and escalated to your on-call team, not a third-party service.

Urgent Calls Reach On-Call Immediately

Chest pain, suicidal ideation, or trauma triggers instant escalation to your on-call clinician. Your team receives the call with chief complaint and patient context already provided.

Routine Calls Do Not Interrupt On-Call

Callers requesting morning appointments or refill follow-ups are handled by AI. Your on-call clinician only receives truly urgent calls.

Morning Inbox Complete

Your staff arrives to structured summaries of all after-hours calls, including who called, their reason, urgency level, any decisions made, and next actions.

Every after-hours call answered

No forwarding to voicemail, no missed calls, no dead ends

Urgent calls escalated in seconds

Chief complaint captured and transferred to on-call clinician with full context

Routine calls handled by AI alone

Appointments booked, information captured, no clinician interruption

Full call record in your system by morning

Caller ID, chief complaint, decisions made, and any intake all documented

Frequently asked questions

How does the AI know when it is after-hours?

You define your business hours during setup. Outside those hours, all inbound calls route to the AI after-hours protocol. Weekends and holidays can be configured as after-hours as well.

Can we set different protocols for nights vs. weekends?

Yes. You can configure one protocol for weeknights, another for weekends, and a third for holidays. Each defines urgency rules and escalation paths.

How does the on-call clinician receive the escalated call?

The AI transfers the call directly to the on-call number you provide (typically a personal cell phone). The clinician receives the call with a summary of the reason for the escalation.

What if the on-call clinician doesn't answer?

You can configure a fallback: retry the on-call number, escalate to a second on-call provider, transfer to your answering service, or advise the caller to go to the ER.

Can we still book appointments during after-hours calls?

Yes. If a caller wants a next-day appointment, the AI can check availability and book it. The appointment appears in your schedule and the caller receives confirmation.
