Clinical Triage

AI screens and escalates urgent patient calls to on-call providers without delay, keeping your team informed

After-hours urgent calls need immediate attention. 24/7 AI reception screens every call for urgency and escalates acute issues to your on-call provider in real-time with full patient context.

How it pays back

Urgent calls don't ring into the void

A patient with chest pain who calls after hours should reach someone, not hear voicemail. AI screens within seconds and either escalates to your on-call provider or directs to 911. Your provider gets full context and can make a safe, informed decision without scrambling for the chart.

Reduce unnecessary ER referrals

Many after-hours calls are urgent-feeling but not ER-level (fever, mild chest pain, anxiety). Your provider, armed with chart context and hearing the patient directly, can often manage with reassurance, guidance, or next-day urgent appointment instead of defaulting to 'go to the ER.'

Your team stays connected and informed

Every urgent call is logged in your EMR so your clinical staff knows about after-hours contacts. No surprises during next-day rounds. You can track patterns—frequent nocturnal chest pain, recurring migraines—and adjust care proactively.

Frequently asked questions

What if the on-call provider doesn't answer?

The system will retry the provider's phone number up to 3 times with increasing urgency. If unreachable, you can configure a backup: second on-call provider, call center, or 911 dispatch for life-threatening emergencies.

Does the AI actually diagnose or triage medically?

No. The AI asks standard screening questions ('Are you having chest pain?', 'Difficulty breathing?', 'Severe allergic reaction?') to determine if a call is acutely urgent. If yes, it escalates immediately. The provider does all clinical triage and decision-making. The AI is a screener, not a clinician.

How does the on-call provider get the patient's medical history?

When the AI identifies an urgent call, it pulls the patient's chart from your EMR and either reads key details to the provider during the escalation call, or the provider can view the patient's record on their phone while speaking with the patient (if your EHR supports secure mobile access).

What if a patient calls saying they need an urgent appointment—not an ER situation?

The AI triages the complaint. If it sounds urgent but not life-threatening (severe headache, flare-up of chronic condition), the AI can note the urgency in the callback message for your staff to schedule a same-day or next-morning urgent slot. Your staff reviews these flagged calls first and prioritizes accordingly.
