ModMed Operations
Callers reporting urgent symptoms or after-hours emergencies are identified by the AI and transferred immediately to an on-call staff member or external emergency line, with caller context provided to the receiving staff.
Callers with acute symptoms bypass voicemail and routing delays. They reach a clinician or nurse in seconds, reducing liability and improving patient outcomes.
The receiving provider or staff member sees the caller's name, reported symptoms, and prior visit history from ModMed before they pick up, so they answer informed and ready.
Your on-call rotation is synced from ModMed. Urgent calls automatically route to the correct provider or your answering service without manual re-routing or phone tag.
Every urgent call is logged, transferred, and documented. Your compliance and medical-legal records show the call was received and escalated per protocol.

The AI listens to the caller's opening statement and asks clarifying questions ('Are you experiencing chest pain right now?'). It flags keywords such as severe pain, difficulty breathing, bleeding, loss of consciousness, allergic reaction, or caller statement of emergency. When a red flag is detected, the call is immediately escalated to staff without further triage.
If the provider or on-call staff member doesn't pick up, the call rolls to a backup provider or your configured answering service (external emergency line, nurse hotline, etc.). The original urgent call is logged and the backup contact receives caller context in real time.
Urgent calls are transferred directly to the on-call staff member. The caller remains on the line and speaks to the provider or nurse immediately. Your ModMed on-call schedule determines the receiving phone number.
Yes. During setup, you define urgent keywords and scenarios specific to your practice (e.g., for orthopedic urgent care, 'acute fracture' or 'major swelling'; for psychiatry, 'suicidal' or 'not taking medications'). You also set your escalation protocol—which staff receive urgent calls, in what order, and when calls route to external services.
Yes. Call recordings and escalation details (timestamp, reason for escalation, receiving staff member) are logged in MedReception. Staff can add notes to the call record for continuity of care documentation.
