ModMed Workflow

Route callers to the correct ModMed provider based on symptoms and availability

MedReception AI triages incoming calls by chief complaint and ModMed provider specialty, routing urgent cases to on-call clinicians and scheduling routine visits with available physicians. No caller waits in queue; no call bounces between staff.

How it pays back

Faster Triage Decision

The AI asks targeted questions—duration of symptoms, severity, red flags—and routes while the patient is still on the call. No callback delays.

Right Provider, Right Specialty

Your ModMed specialty tags determine routing. A patient calling with shoulder pain is routed to ortho or physiatry, not primary care.

Provider Workload Balanced

The AI respects each provider's ModMed availability and schedule load. Calls distribute based on real-time open slots, not arbitrary rules.

Clinical Context Ready

When your staff answer, they see the AI's intake summary, chief complaint, and red flags. No time wasted re-asking questions.

Frequently asked questions

How does the AI know which provider to route a call to?

The AI asks the caller's chief complaint and checks ModMed for available providers with matching specialties. Your triage rules (e.g., 'chest pain always goes to cardiology') also factor in. The system routes based on availability, specialty match, and urgency.

What happens if the urgent provider is not available?

If your on-call provider doesn't answer or is unavailable, the AI escalates per your backup rules—to another provider, an urgent care, or an emergency department, depending on severity.

Can the AI route based on the patient's prior appointment history?

Yes. If a patient has a standing provider in ModMed, the AI prioritizes routing to that provider if available. Otherwise, it uses specialty and availability.

What information is available to the staff member when they receive the routed call?

The AI's structured intake note, including chief complaint, symptom duration, red flags, caller mood/tone, and any prior history the AI retrieved from ModMed. Call recording is available if needed.

Can I customize the routing rules per provider or specialty?

Yes. Your team defines escalation thresholds, backup routing, and specialty-specific logic during setup. Rules can be updated anytime without touching the AI system.
