ModMed Integration

AI receptionist for ModMed practices protects patient privacy while capturing PHI on calls—compliant call recording, encrypted storage, secure data handoff

HIPAA-compliant AI receptionist designed for ModMed practices. MedReception captures patient information and records calls securely, stores PHI encrypted, returns intake summary to staff for clinical review, and integrates with ModMed without exposing patient data in transit.

How it pays back

Compliant intake and booking in one call

Capture PHI during intake and appointment booking without building separate compliance infrastructure. MedReception handles encryption, access logs, and HIPAA workflows; ModMed handles clinical record.

No shared unencrypted data

Data passed from the AI to ModMed is encrypted end-to-end. No patient phone numbers, names, or insurance info sits in plain text on unsecured servers.

Audit-ready call records

Every call is logged—who called, when, what was discussed, who accessed the data, when it was deleted. Your compliance officer has a complete audit trail.

Staff control over chart entry

The AI captures PHI and returns it as a summary for your team to review. Your staff decides what clinical information enters ModMed, giving you visibility and control over chart accuracy.

Encrypted call handling

All PHI encrypted at rest and in transit; calls recorded with consent

HIPAA-aware by design

Structured intake captured and returned as summary; full audio not retained; data retention and deletion policies built in

Audit-ready logs

Complete record of data access, retention, and deletion for compliance review

Staff-controlled filing

Clinical intake returned as summary for staff review; clinical data reviewed by staff before entry to chart

Frequently asked questions

Is the AI HIPAA-compliant?

Yes. MedReception is built for HIPAA compliance: encrypted storage and transit, secure ModMed integration, audit logging, call consent messaging, and data retention policies. Your practice remains responsible for HIPAA compliance; MedReception provides the infrastructure.

What consent do callers need to give?

At the start of the call, the AI plays a consent message: 'This call may be recorded for quality and training purposes. Your information will be used to book your appointment and shared with your provider.' Callers can decline recording, and the call ends.

Does the AI store full call audio?

No. The AI captures structured intake data (chief complaint, symptoms, insurance, demographics) and discards full audio after processing. A summary is retained for your staff to review and file.

How is patient data passed to ModMed?

Via HIPAA-compliant API. The connection is encrypted, uses OAuth authentication, and logs all transactions. Data is not exposed in plain text during transfer.

Can I delete call records if a patient requests data removal?

Yes. You can request deletion of a specific call record and associated data. MedReception will remove it from storage. Any data already synced to ModMed is subject to your EMR's retention policies.
